#diy #woodworking #joinery When you're searching for videos on how to use a biscuit joiner, you will see some other alternatives to these joining tools pop up. They're all decent for what they were intended for in the debate of which is better: biscuits vs dominos vs dowels? I think the best compromise is a dowel for strength. I own a biscuit cutter/joiner (also called a plate joiner), but I only use it to align my edges for a glue up, as biscuits don't have much holding strength across the grain. There's also a lot of slop between different brands of biscuit cutters, leading some woodworkers to say they're useless, but they're not. I own a cheaper Ryobi brand biscuit cutter, and it's okay for alignment. In view of needing an inexpensive wood joiner tool, I wanted a LOT more strength in my woodworking joinery--especially for wide surfaces like tables, but couldn't really afford the penultimate wood joiner tool-- the Festool Domino, which creates a mortise for a floating tenon (or loose tenon), so I opted for another VERY strong joint component, the dowel. Business Inquiries Email: mountainvids@gmail.com (subject title: Inquiry from Youtube) Since I didn't want to go the doweling jig route, I opted for a hybrid between the biscuit versus domino connectors, which was satisfied by the Triton dowel joiner. The more expensive version is made by Mafell, but is more accurate and robust in design. This is a Triton dowelling joiner, which is basically a cross between a Domino and a biscuit cutter. Great for joining wood panels and tables.
