Alzheimer’s disease is the most common form of dementia caused by the build-up of two substances in the brain called amyloid and tau that clump up and form tiny structures called plaques and tangles. These conditions make it harder for the brain to work properly. An innovative new class of therapeutics has shown benefit in slowing the progression of Alzheimer’s disease by as much as 25 percent when treated at early onset.
