Nickel –containing alloys have been used in the oil and gas industry for over 60 years. -Originally these were mainly nickel chromium-molybdenum alloys, but towards the end of the century new grades of stainless steel were developed that had good corrosion resistance in oilfield fluids. -Since that time the early alloys have continued to be used, and many applications have been found for the newer austenitic and duplex stainless steels, where they offered a lower cost solution.
