When a woman’s name is erased, her identity—and her rights—often disappear with it. Drawing on years of on-the-ground investigation and advocacy in India’s Mewat region, actress and activist Trupti Bhoir exposes the hidden reality of bride slavery and the women labeled “Paro,” rendered invisible by tradition and law. This powerful talk is both a witness to injustice and a call to restore dignity, identity, and freedom to millions of women worldwide. Trupti Bhoir is an Oscar-listed producer, acclaimed actress, and cultural activist using storytelling as a force for social change. Rising from Marathi cinema—starring in Agadbam and producing Touring Talkies, shortlisted for the Oscars—she gained global recognition with PARO, which received a standing ovation at Cannes Marché du Film and earned her Best Actress honors in Japan. Beyond cinema, Trupti leads transformative grassroots work through her Shelter Foundation, creating livelihoods for tribal women, advocating against bride slavery, and founding a school for tribal children. A sought-after global voice, she has spoken at the Cannes Film Festival, Oxford, Harvard, and UN Women, and consults with India’s National Commission for Women. A member of India’s Central Board of Film Certification, she bridges art and activism to challenge injustice and expand dignity, rights, and representation. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
