DETAILS: Joint Venture CEO Russell Hancock presented a comprehensive briefing on the 2023 Silicon Valley Index at the annual State of the Valley conference February 17. The briefing was broken out into two parts: Economy and Community. This is the Economy part. The report, produced by Joint Venture's Institute for Regional Studies, shows Silicon Valley is perched on solid ground despite growing income and wealth divides, persistent racial inequities, and a dwindling population. It also shows that population declined by tens of thousands, home prices rose by 7%, childcare costs rose twice as quickly as inflation, and wages were inadequate for the rising cost of living. • For more information about the Index and to download a copy, visit https://jointventure.org/publications.... ABOUT THE CONFERENCE: The 2023 State of the Valley Conference took place on Friday February 17 as a hybrid event at the Computer History Museum while simultaneously being broadcast via Brandlive. State of the Valley is an old-fashioned “town hall” meeting, a tradition at least as old as our nation’s founding, when concerned citizens met on the village green to mobilize for the challenges ahead. In that same spirit, Joint Venture’s town meeting convenes the entire region—concerned citizens and stakeholders, thought leaders and opinion makers, journalists, students and academics, our elected representatives and their professional staff, business leaders, labor and workforce leaders, venture capitalists and others—for dialogue and discussion about the Valley’s challenges and opportunities.
