Title: Caged Choreography: Karen Fisher Doyle Company: Aerial Dance Chicago Filmed: April 4th, 2025, performed at Ruth Page Center for the Arts, Chicago Dancers: Cindy Johnson and Jennifer Sarsfield of Aerial Dance Chicago Lighting Designer: Jacob Snodgrass This work uses aerial dance elements fused with contemporary dance styles to convey the essence of feeling caged, controlled, and manipulated by conservative society. The cage image created with lighting design for the stage enhances the fluttering music sounds that capture the intrinsic nature of chaos, in darkness and in opposition, finds us watching two dancers choreographically trying to break free. This choreography explores the vertical realm and transcends assumed limits of dance by using the vertical stage space to enhance the viewers’ experience, starting with airborne dance movement above and on the aerial hoop apparatus.
