In an interview with Ryan Minic of Ryan’s Rock Show, Andy Williams of Every Time I Die shared stories from his youth, early music experiences, and life on tour. He recalled being dropped off by his dad to see GWAR in 1992, an experience that left a lasting impression, and attending his first hardcore show with Sick of It All in 1993, which solidified his love for heavy music. Williams reflected on his decision to quit drinking at 13, an experience that came after a brief rebellious phase. He discussed his early bands, including a short-lived Black Sabbath cover band and a project called Spam Beach, which featured unconventional instrumentation. He also shared how he fueled the writing of Ex Lives with excessive coffee consumption, inspired by a Mars Volta interview. Williams spoke about his love for skateboarding videos as a creative influence and reminisced about bizarre tour experiences, including ghost sightings, haunted venues, and a surreal encounter with a KKK member at a show. He also compared the modern metal scene to pro wrestling, criticizing bands that prioritize image over authenticity. Despite his career in music and wrestling, Williams humorously admitted that he once aspired to be a valet, inspired by 80s movies where valets always seemed to get lucky.
