I’ve always wanted to own a set of anamorphic lenses, but up until now never had the need to pull the trigger. With so many amazing, affordable options out there now, it’s tough to find the right set that checks all of the boxes for what you’re looking for. Also, shooting with anamorphic lenses on the RED V-Raptor X has been a very confusing journey, to say the least. So after many, many weeks of research and testing, I’ve made my decision. In this video I outline the trials and tribulations with shooting in anamorphic on the V-Raptor (and all non-open gate sensors), what I want (and don’t want) in a set of anamorphic lenses, and why I made my final decision between the Blazar Mantis, Blazar Cato, Blazar Remus, and the Laowa Nanomorph LF lenses. 90% of this is entirely subjective, but I hope this journey helps at least one of you in making an informed decision, especially shooting on this camera. Everything in this video, minus the b-roll of the set of lenses I chose on the V-Raptor X, was shot on the Sony FX6 with these lenses. Enjoy!
