On March 13th, Rep. Gallagher joined Faulkner Focus on @FoxNews to discuss the overwhelming support and ultimate passage on the House floor of his bipartisan TikTok bill to force a separation of TikTok from its CCP-controlled parent company ByteDance. As Rep. Gallagher said, "The way in which all Americans can continue to enjoy TikTok and post political commentary, post silly dance videos, or whatever the heck they want to post, is if ByteDance agrees to sell TikTok to a non-adversary entity." Read more highlights of the conversation below. Faulkner: Should a company under the control of the Chinese Communist Party be allowed to own the primary source of news for young Americans? Rep. Gallagher: No, absolutely not. For example, we don't let them own TV stations or newspapers. What this bill does is take a very narrow focus. We are concerned with foreign adversary control of social media platforms. Foreign adversaries, as defined by existing statute congressional definition: China, Russia, Iran, and North Korea. And that is the primary problem when TikTok has become the news platform for young Americans, we have to question whether it is wise to have our foremost adversary dictate what news and information young Americans get. The potential for propaganda abuse is simply too great. That's why we took this common sense bipartisan step today, with 352 members of the House of Representatives vote in favor of this measure. In the current Congress, it is very rare to get that level of agreement on anything. Faulkner: Biden claims he backs the crackdown on TikTok, but his campaign is actually using TikTok, posting videos going after former President Trump's policies, taking victory laps on their own, and even sharing the President's Super Bowl pic. And the night of President Biden State of the Union address, he invited dozens of social media influencers, many of them TikTok stars, to the White House for a watch party. I mean, can he have it both ways? Rep. Gallagher: Well, the way in which all Americans can continue to enjoy TikTok and post political commentary, post silly dance videos or whatever the heck they want to post, is if Bytedance agrees to sell TikTok to a non-adversary entity and that way, the use of the platform doesn't have to be impeded. Now, I would still argue as a parent, that social media use in general is not healthy. But that is a separate question as to whether a foreign adversary should control a news platform or a social media platform. So I would hope that the Biden campaign gets off TikTok. I doubt that they will. But I'm glad the President has signaled that he's willing to sign this bill, which would solve the problem for everybody. // Subscribe to Rep.
