Immersive model railway operations- The Border District - VR & SAR in HO scale

Ant Palmer’s excellent Australian HO layout “The Border District” depicts Victorian Railways and South Australian Railways operations around the border between Australia’s mainland southern states. Using the Adelaide Branch Line Operators (ABLO) car forwarding, and running through a large sequence of workings, Ant has more than 60 operating sessions now on the ‘District. I’m fortunate enough to run the layout during some of these sessions and on this day I was responsible for the SAR 1 crew role, which entailed working train 547 to Jameston, shunting the necessary drop offs and pick ups, and forming train 152 for the return. This video gives you a short insight into what a typical operating session entails. Operations for me are the culmination of modelling railways. When combined with great rollingstock, DCC sound, running reliability, weathered stock, excellent structures and locale specific scenery, it’s what I hope to aim for with my own layout and continues to serve as ongoing inspiration.
