HOW TO GROUP STUDENTS FOR DIFFERENTIATED CENTERS IN MUSIC CLASS

Is your school on the differentiation bandwagon? It seems like they all are right now. Last year, I started to add differentiated centers into my weekly routine, and it has been great. I really get to connect with the students and see them and their strengths and weaknesses much more clearly. First, you need to figure out what the students know. You could do this with a pretest or a classwork activity, or whatever you are already doing. After that, I sort students into three different categories-- think: got it, almost there, need a lot of help. I write them down as a check, a line, and an x.
