To thousands of women in Romania the most dangerous place is their house, where their privacy can conjure a fury which can turn into domestic violence, can trigger a trauma or can lead to their losing their life. Two thirds of the violent attacks against women are committed by a person they know. Romania holds one of the first places in Europe where domestic violence. The most recent data of the Romanian Police show that in 2022 more than 90, 000 cases were reported, mostly against girls and women. Gender violence is one of the most frequent violations of human rights in the world and in Romania it has become a social phenomenon. In the first months of this year (2023), over 18, 000 Romanians have committed acts of domestic violence and the number of victims is over 17, 000. In Romania every other 30 seconds a woman is beaten and every other 5 days a victim of domestic violence dies. Six women, for whom family life meant an endless line of scandals, hits and death threats agreed to stay in front of the camera, to tell us how they became victims of domestic violence, how for the children's sake, because of fear or maybe because of lack of knowledge, endured their partner's abuse for years, until they reached the decision to leave and go far from the aggressor. Some of them changed their home, the street or relocated to another town or even country, to be able to live a normal life. And now they encourage the other women to dare leave their aggressor, to talk to those close to them if they experience the same traumas. In Romania every other 30 seconds a woman is beaten and every other 5 days a victim of domestic violence dies. Six women have had the courage to stay in front of the camera and share their experience. Mainly, the causes of domestic violence are generated by the consumption of alcohol, social environment, but there is no definite rule.
