The Glorious Mysteries are traditionally prayed on Wednesdays and Sundays. These mysteries focus on the triumph of Jesus Christ over death, the birth of the Church, and the eternal glory of the Virgin Mary. While the Sorrowful Mysteries focus on the sacrifice, the Glorious Mysteries celebrate the fulfillment of God’s promise—reminding us that the story of faith does not end at the grave, but in eternal life. 1. The Resurrection The Event: On the third day after his death, Jesus rises from the dead, leaving the tomb empty. He appears to Mary Magdalene and the Apostles, proving that he has conquered sin and death. The Focus: The foundation of the Christian faith; without the Resurrection, our faith would be in vain. Spiritual Fruit: Faith. 2. The Ascension The Event: Forty days after his Resurrection, Jesus ascends into Heaven in the presence of his disciples. He returns to his Father’s right hand, promising to prepare a place for us and to remain with us until the end of time. The Focus: Keeping our eyes fixed on our ultimate destination: Heaven. Spiritual Fruit: Hope (Desire for Heaven). 3. The Descent of the Holy Spirit (Pentecost) The Event: While the Apostles and Mary are gathered in the Upper Room, the Holy Spirit descends upon them in the form of tongues of fire. They are filled with courage and begin to preach the Gospel in many languages. The Focus: The "birthday" of the Church and the importance of being guided by the Spirit. Spiritual Fruit: Love of God or Wisdom. 4. The Assumption of Mary The Event: At the end of her earthly life, the Virgin Mary is taken up body and soul into heavenly glory. Because she was preserved from original sin, she did not undergo the corruption of death in the same way as others. The Focus: A sign of hope for all believers that our bodies will also be raised on the last day. Spiritual Fruit: Devotion to Mary or Grace of a Happy Death. 5. The Coronation of Mary The Event: Mary is crowned as Queen of Heaven and Earth. She is the great sign in the sky described in Revelation—the woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and a crown of twelve stars. The Focus: Mary’s role as our advocate and queen who intercedes for us before her Son. Spiritual Fruit: Trust in Mary’s Intercession or Perseverance.
