Join Antoinette Herring and Melissa Bourgeois as they share their journeys through ECC’s Certified Recovery Support Specialist Program—how they became mentors and allies for people in recovery. Learn how the CRSS program empowers students to use their unique lived experience as an asset to support individuals facing substance-use, mental-health, or co-occurring challenges. Through their training, students learn how to provide peer support through mentoring and role modeling, build recovery plans, connect individuals to resources, and serve as strong peer advocates. ECC’s program is one of the first of its kind among Illinois higher education institutions, offering a 16.5-college credit Basic Vocational Certificate. The program prepares students for meaningful roles in substance-use, mental-health, and community-based settings. Watch now to see how Antoinette and Melissa are putting their education into action—and consider how this path might inspire your own journey. Learn more at Program elgin.edu/crss.
