Napoléon Coste - Op.38, No.2 (Scherzando) | Classical Guitar Etude | Played by Jonathan Richter

Napoléon Coste (1805 - 1883) was a French classical guitarist and composer. Coste's Op.38 is a beautiful collection of 25 etudes for classical guitar. The studies vary in difficulty, but overall they're great for intermediate and advanced guitarists. Etude No.2 has a marking of Scherzando, which is a musical term that indicates a lighthearted, playful mood. In scherzando pieces, composers like to create a whimsical, or humorous effect. Sure enough, Coste gives us this feeling right away with a surprising accent pattern in the bass line. The swooping phrases up the guitar neck and constant modulations across major and minor keys also gives this study a fun and mysterious feel. Written as a liner note on the score is the dedication: "A Monsieur De La Richardière".
