Niagara Falls is one of those places people think they understand. It’s beautiful, powerful, and on just about everyone’s bucket list. Millions of people stand at the railing every year, watching the water rush past, assuming they know what they’re looking at. But as a mortician, I see rivers — and waterfalls like Niagara — very differently. In this Morbid Monday episode, I’m breaking down the dark reality of rivers, using Niagara Falls as the main example. We’re talking about what fast-moving water actually does, why rivers are so unpredictable, and why I personally refuse to swim in them. I also share real experiences that shaped that boundary for me, along with history, science, and folklore tied to Niagara Falls. This video is educational in nature and meant to help people understand the real risks that are often underestimated around rivers and waterfalls. It’s not a travel video, and it’s not meant to shock for the sake of shock. My goal is to explain why water like this deserves respect — and why places like Niagara Falls feel so heavy once you really understand what’s happened there. In this episode, we talk about: • Why rivers and waterfalls are far more dangerous than they look • What moving water can do to the human body • Why river recoveries are unpredictable and complex • The science behind currents and undertows • The history, folklore, and energy surrounding Niagara Falls If you’ve ever stood near a river or waterfall and thought, “It looks calm enough,” this might make you pause the next time you do. I’m Lauren the Mortician — and trust me, every day’s a Morbid Monday in my world. #laurenthemortician #morbidmonday #deatheducation #mortician #deathcare #coffincrew #rivers #niagarafalls #haunted #history #funeraldirector #watersafety #educationalpurposes #darkhistory
