With nearly two decades of experience in this industry—starting at age 19 and now continuing at 38—we have experienced firsthand how the hair market has evolved. The effects of post-pandemic disruptions and shifting international tariffs have significantly impacted the quality and availability of raw hair, necessitating a review and rebuilding of our vendor relationships from the ground up. Our focus remains exclusively on raw hair—hair that has been naturally grown from the scalp and follows a real-life growth cycle. This type of hair retains its cuticle alignment, strength, and integrity, offering unmatched longevity and performance when properly treated and maintained. We work with a range of raw hair types, including Cambodian, Indian, Indonesian, and Filipino. However, we do not entertain vendors who misrepresent their products. There is no room in our business for deceptive claims, especially when it comes to the highly misused labels of "Cambodian" or "Indian" hair. Our sourcing process is based on trust, experience, and relationship-building—not mass-market platforms like Alibaba or Instagram. Instead, we collaborate directly with authentic hair collectors to ensure the quality and origin of each bundle. Every new vendor undergoes extensive testing. For example, we evaluate samples consisting of two and a half bundles with a 4x4 closure to assess the texture, fullness, weight, and performance of the hair. While the current test bundles are full and fluffy with a natural curly pattern and a wavy appearance, we do not accept curled or manipulated textures. We prefer hair that behaves naturally—able to straighten, color, and hold curls without compromise. Sourcing curly hair with consistency remains an ongoing challenge. Although we've received promising bundles from some vendors, inconsistencies in texture and wafting often prevent us from committing to long-term relationships. We've also encountered the additional burden of shipping hair out of state for wafting, which adds time and cost—sometimes $30 per bundle, plus shipping. This has only deepened our understanding of the importance of reliable, localized solutions. We encourage anyone entering this industry to start with at least three to five vendors—especially when sourcing Indian hair—within the same country. Diversification protects against common issues such as shedding, quality shifts, and sudden pricing changes. We are currently testing a variety of vendors and expect more inventory soon as we continue refining our options. Internally, we've implemented operational upgrades, including digital inventory management with a new iPad, packaging improvements, and barcode systems to enhance tracking of fulfillment and stock levels. As stylists, we stand behind the quality of every product we sell—personally testing bundles, installing them, straightening, coloring, and assessing longevity before anything goes live. We are not trying to imitate or compete with popular hair brands—we respect the consistency and success of companies like Yummy Hair and Sun-Kiss Hair Co.—but our focus is on building something of our own—a brand rooted in transparency, consistency, and quality. Our goal is to offer the best raw hair available, reduce customer complaints, and build a sustainable, client-centered hair company that thrives—even in the face of evolving industry challenges.
