𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐠 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐅𝐨𝐫 𝐇𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬 𝐈𝐧 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐞 𝐒𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐮𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝑄𝘶𝑎𝘯𝑡𝘰𝑐𝘬 𝘚𝑡𝘢𝑔 𝐻𝘰𝑢𝘯𝑑𝘴, 𝐾𝘦𝑛𝘯𝑒𝘭 𝘔𝑒𝘦𝑡, 𝘞𝑒𝘴𝑡 𝐵𝘢𝑔𝘣𝑜𝘳𝘰𝑢𝘨ℎ Mᴏɴᴅᴀʏ 7ᴛʜ Aᴘʀɪʟ 2025 We were back at the Quantock Stag Hounds on Monday, for their kennel meet in West Bagborough. Joined by North Dorset Hunt Saboteurs and Three Counties Hunt Saboteurs, we started by spreading out over higher and lower ground in anticipation of the chase. Mounted hunt followers and the dregs of society in their 4x4s, quad bikes and ATVs lined the hills too to get a view of wildlife being tormented once more. The chase started with a herd of deer being chased between Flaxpool and Triscombe, out of covert and across wide, open fields in strong sunshine. Deer scattered in several directions, but riders and hounds found their victim in a herd that they chased up the hills of Triscombe Quarry into Aisholt Common. The hunted stag was separated and the hunt worked to flush him out of the valley. All hell broke loose as the stag made a bid for freedom, riders and vehicles charged towards the stag, shouting and screaming, as they tried to stop the stag entering Forestry England land. The stag leapt past the hunt and made it to an area that should have been safe as the hunt are banned from Forestry. However, horses and hounds followed the stag into Forestry and continued the pursuit further northwest. Sabs did knock on the door of the forestry office to inform staff of the hunt's trespass, but, as one sab put it, "he seemed about as interested as that blade of grass over there". Forestry England continue to have blood on their hands for not enforcing their own ban of hunting on their land. After much backwards and forwards being chased between Dead Woman's Ditch and Quantock Farm, the hunted stag eventually crossed the road into Robin Upright's Hill. This was witnessed by a group of walkers, who informed a nearby sab that they had seen two hounds close behind. All of the hunt followers then relocated and concentrated themselves at the top of Frog combe, surrounding the valley, hoping to see the exhausted stag chased back out. Amazingly, the hunted stag managed to join a large herd of hinds and found safety in numbers as this group was flushed back out of covert on Frog Hill. He was panting and visibly tired as the herd continued into the woodland on Dowsborough Hill Fort. A herd of deer that then emerged in the gorse on the northern slopes of Dowsborough contained more stags. We witnessed the huntsman and hounds charging towards the herd and breaking them up, but it was soon apparent that this herd did not contain their target stag, and the hunt resumed their search around Dowsborough. To the great relief of all sabs present, the hunt did not find the hunted stag again, and they packed up a little before 6pm. The poor stag had been chased for hours in strong spring sunshine, making for a miraculous escape. The frustration from the lack of kill got the better of one hunt follower, who launched a tirade of aggression and threats towards sabs watching the hunt head back to their boxes from the road. The campaign against the stag hunts continues throughout April.
