A slight trip down the Impulse Response Rabbit Hole. This is a demo of the Lead Channel of the Tone King Imperial Preamp. I'm comparing a few of the OwnHammer onboard IRs against some third-party IRs from Origin Effects and York Audio. Some folks have mentioned that the onboard OwnHammer IRs are very bass heavy. I feel like the TK Editor has done an excellent job of fixing that by adding a High Pass Filter. But I've also discovered that other IRs aren't as heavy in the bass - York Audio for instance. The backing track is Led Zeppelin's Since I've Been Loving You and I got that from the YouTube page Now YOU Shred. / @nowyoushred The guitar used in this demo is a Riley Nomad Custom guitar from a builder in the PNW. The pickup is a Razor P90 and I stayed in the bridge position throughout. Great guitars! https://rileyguitars.com/ I'm not real fond of deep diving into Impulse Responses because it seems like it can be an endless journey. But I thought it would be fun to try out here since I have quite a few packs of York Audio IRs that I purchased in the past. My final verdict - The onboard OwnHammer IRs are quite good. You could probably easily land on three that work great w/o having to resort to third party IRs. The Origin Effects IRs are really good and are relatively simple to use. They just give you a speaker and three mixes to choose from - bright, medium, or dark. Plus, they are free on their website! The York Audio IRs are high quality. But when you buy one of their packs, you get A LOT of options (different mics, distances, phases, etc...) It can be a bit overwhelming and options paralysis for someone like me. But I love them anyways. I usually just land on Mix 1 and stop there. LOL (Side note: York Audio IRs sound incredible in the Neural DSP plugins) Anyways, hope this is helpful to someone. I think my favorites in this shootout are - Ownhammer Fane - so nicely balanced Ownhammer Gold - has a nice sizzly thing to it but not quite as obnoxious as the sizzly character that a V30 can get - sometimes I think the V30 is almost too much but I included a couple of them in this demo because it's a well-used speaker choice for lots of folks York Audio Creamback - has a nice sizzly character as well but better balanced than a V30 Other cool contenders are the YA P10Q and Origin Magma.
