In one of the critical battles of World War II, these brave soldiers, outnumbered and outgunned, inflicted the first major defeat on the formidable Japanese. These Kokoda heroes almost certainly prevented a Japanese invasion of Australia. But at the time their revolutionary tactics of engage and withdraw - which proved so successful - were misinterpreted by Australia's military top brass. For six decades these men have lived with a dreadful slur, that they were cowards. Now, finally, there has been vindication. Charles Wooley returns to Kokoda with the men who saved Australia.
