The gauges in my 2008 Peugeot Boxer based motorhome have been gradually failing over the past year. It started with the fuel gauge but then the rev counter, temp gauge and speedo all started working intermittently or not at all. The local dealer quoted £1200 + programming +vat and probably labour as well so I thought I'd investigate and try and fix it myself. It was fiddly (took about 3 hours altogether, but could probably do it in half that time having figured it out). At the end I took one of the motors apart to find out the root cause of the issue. A couple of people asked - I bought the motors from Ali Express: DELTA CHINA SA20S36F-001A 557109000300 5708m31W,Automobile instrument motor www.aliexpress.com/item/33013527964.html They were £5.20 when I bought them in 2023, about £8.25 today (Nov 2025). A little inflation just like everything else... Still a lot cheaper than a new instrument cluster ;) Note: I am not a professional mechanic! This is a kitchen table repair - not be the best (or even a good) way of doing it since I only have basic tools and a (decent) soldering iron. I recorded it just in case it helps someone with a similar problem. I hope this is obvious but there is plenty of scope for damaging the whole cluster so only try it at your own risk! Edit: I have since discovered that there is a company (Cartronix) who will fix these for a reasonable sum. I also didn't know it was such a common problem. Poor design but I guess vans are designed to be thrashed for 6 years and then scrapped. Not used for motorhomes with a 20-30 year life.
