CHICHEN ITZA VALLADOLID Chichén Itzá is located on the Yucatán Peninsula in Mexico, in the state of the same name, between the cities of Mérida (120 km) and Cancún (200 km). The construction of the city (Late Classic to Postclassic period) dates back to the 6th to 10th centuries AD and is believed to have been home to up to 50,000 inhabitants at one time and the main economic center of the Maya population. However, during the 15th century, the city declined until it disappeared. The site is divided into two main parts, the first and older is Chichén Viejo and the second is Chichén Itzá. In old Chichén we can find six Mayan ruins, while in Chichén Itzá or new Chichén, there are exactly twenty of them waiting for visitors.
