“Don’t lose heart — that’s what I’ve been doing since the first day of my arrest.”. These are the words of Olga Komleva, a journalist and former volunteer for Alexei Navalny’s team in Ufa. In March 2024, she was arrested at home and later sentenced to twelve years in prison for so-called “participation in an extremist organisation” and “spreading false information” about the Russian army. Her only “crime” was journalism — writing honestly and speaking against the war. Her trial was held behind closed doors. Olga wasn’t allowed to defend herself in public. She has type-2 diabetes, but in prison she gets almost no medical care and depends on her family to send medicine. She has never admitted guilt. Despite imprisonment, health problems, and pressure, Olga continues to resist — in her writings, in her spirit.
