In recent weeks the media has been focusing on the reduced levels of our reservoirs. Sadly, as the media are prone to doing nowadays, such reports are always delivered in "armageddon" type tones. No mention is made of similar conditions in these reservoirs in 1975, 1976, 1988, 2000, and 2008. In 2008 Thruscross reservoir was so low that one could see the properties within the village of West End that had been "drowned" beneath this reservoir back in the 1960's. The footage taken in August 2022 shows no signs of the village beneath. So every day currently is NOT worse than every day in the past, despite what the media attempt to tell us. For instance July 2022 was only the 16th hottest July since records began back in the 1880's and only the 20th driest in that time. Thus, in other words, on average, we have had hotter July's once every 9 years since records began! Thus 2022 is actually not unduly special.
