This video is part one of a series of Amtrak F40 cab ride films that my father took while working for Amtrak as a ticket agent. The following film is a cab ride on Amtrak #81 the Silver Star New York to Miami service between Richmond, Va and Raleigh, NC on the S line (former Seaboard Air Line). The engineer and fireman were former SAL employees from the steam era: Frank Gil and Willy Williams. Such scenes include the James River Bridge, Collier Yard, the Bracey Canyon, and the long bridge over Lake Gaston. This route no longer exists as it was abandoned, however it may be resurrected with the new high speed rail project. The films were shot with a Canon 514 xl-s film camera with boom microphone using Super 8 Kodachrome sound film. Special thanks goes to my Dad for allowing me to post these to the internet. Please like, subscribe, or follow us on Facebook for more content!
