On 29 April 2022, an exceptionally powerful drill-bit EF3 tornado struck the southeast-east side of the town of Andover, Kansas, inflicting devastating damage to any building that came into contact with it. The erratic multi-vortex tornado touched down at 8:10 P.M., at which point it was already highly visible. As it moved northeast along fields, it struck multiple homes before it crossed the intersection of Harry Street and Andover Road, where it entered the populated areas of Andover. The narrow multi-vortex tornado was caught on camera by multiple drone cameras and storm chasers as it tore through Andover. The tornado reached peak intensity while striking a YMCA fitness center, crossing Route 400, striking another set of homes before tearing through Central Park, where it was caught on high-quality video tape by the Andover City Hall surveillance cameras as it passed by. It entered more sparse areas and grew larger as it crossed Purple Heart Trail, before finally shrinking and disappearing into nothing over open fields northeast of Andover at ~8:30-8:31 just before dark. It was the most significant tornado in Andover since the 1991 Wichita-Andover F5 that happened 31 years prior, which devastated the McConnell Air Force Base.
