After the Night of the Black Knives, when a fragment of the Rune of Death was stolen and used to slay Godwyn, he bound the power of death within his own flesh to prevent such a tragedy from ever happening again. Facing a Black Knife Assassin as Maliketh is not just a duel — it is a reckoning. The assassins were the first to defy the natural order he was entrusted to protect. They stole what he guarded.
