Someone pointed out to me that copying a patent was illegal (it not so many words). I discovered he was correct. I thought I could create one for personal use without issue--as in some type of "fair use" law; however, there is no such law for patents that I am aware of. You can create one, despite the patent, for R&D purposes, but as I would get "utility" out of this then I would be in violation of the patent. I was then going to purchase a license (if available) from the owner of the patent once I realized this; however, in this process I discovered that the original patent expired in January 2014 (patents are only good for 17 years). As the patent has expired the design can be legally copied as I understand it. That being said, this guy still sells these items on his website. As this is his design I will not be providing the CAD files to anyone. I think that is the right thing to do. Please don't contact me via email, as someone has done, and request them. I will not provide them. If you want one, build it yourself as I did. I try to be honest in my dealings with my fellow man; however, I do make mistakes. Once I realized my mistake regarding my lack of knowledge in patent law, I tried to correct my mistake. In that process I discovered the patent was expired, so I saw no need to pursue this avenue any further as there is no longer any legal or moral issue as I understand it.
