FRANKLIN, Ohio (WKRC) - A police officer shot himself at the police gun range in Franklin Friday. Franklin Police Captain Ross Coulton said police and EMS were called to the Franklin police training facility on Baxter Drive at about 10:45 a.m. Coulton said the officer shot himself in the leg when he was holstering his weapon. The officer was from the West Carrollton Police Department. Deputy Chief David Wessling said the officer involved in the accident is proficient and has been with the department for about ten years. "He's proficient, just sometimes incidents happen and this is an unfortunate event where it's just an unfortunate incident that happened." The accident happened during a department qualification day. A range instructor was there at the time. The officer was taken to Kettering Hospital. He's said to be stable.
