Crohn's disease vs Ulcerative colitis

Crohn’s disease and Ulcerative colitis (UC)  Crohn’s disease and Ulcerative colitis are both types of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), which is a category of diseases that causes inflammation in the GI tract.  Both Crohn’s disease and Ulcerative colitis are marked by an abnormal response by the body’s immune system, and they may share some symptoms.  Recent studies show some combination of hereditary, genetic, and/or environmental factors may cause the development of IBD. location Crohn’s disease: Any portion of the GI tract from mouth to anus, usually the terminal ileum and colon. Skip lesions, rectal sparing. Ulcerative colitis: Continuous colonic lesions, begins in rectum and can proximally up to the cecum. Symptoms Crohn’s disease: Abdominal pain and cramping, bloating, constipation, persistent diarrhea, fatigue, weight loss, and loss of appetite. Ulcerative colitis: Abdominal pain, bloody stool, fever, fatigue, weight loss, and loss of appetite, left lower quadrant pain. Extraintestinal manifestations Rash (pyoderma gangrenosum, erythema nodosum), eye inflammation (episcleritis, uveitis), oral ulcerations (aphthous stomatitis), arthritis (peripheral, spondylitis), Kidney stones (usually calcium oxalate), gallstones, sclerosing cholangitis.
