Earl of Mount Edgcumbe brought a charter from Birmingham and was booked to return double headed with Tornado, an unusual combination of GWR and LNER haulage I was looking forward to seeing. At the last moment the use of the 2nd locomotive was cancelled. Other things did not go to plan either resulting in a long wait in the cold. There was some problem with the Earl which delayed a Trans Pennine Express a while, then a rake of Rail Head Treatment wagons arrived on the scene making us wonder how they were going to run the diesel round. The whole train set off to the North yard and I headed to the next location to be taken by surprise as the Earl turned up without the full train. It seems there was a bit of shunting around to get the Rail Head wagons out of the way. Time passed as the Rail Head wagons which had now gone North were shunted into their storage yard, and then the late running Earl made it's way to the turn table partly hidden by a train of hoppers which came to a stand. There was more delay while for some reason the crew saw the need to dig out some undergrowth towards the turntable. Eventually the Earl was turned and I returned to the station to get a cup of tea and wait for the empty stock to return. So after what at first looked like a uneventful day it turned out a good one.
