by Dale Russell Aired June 9, 2016 The war of words between Mayor Kasim Reed and the Airport General Manger he recently fired has heated up. Mayor Reed says former General manager Miguel Southwell is lucky THAT he is not pressing charges against him. This is getting ugly. After Miguel Southwell was fired, he hired top employment lawyer, Lee Parks, and threatened to sue. In a letter to the city, Mr. Southwell implied the Mayor or his staff interfered with construction and food contracts, trying to give lucrative airport contracts to losing bidders. The Mayor told Fox 5 I-Team's Dale Russell that amounts to a smear campaign and he did not interfere with any contracts. "If folks keep coming up to me asking about Miguel Southwell, I'm going to disclose the actual facts behind his termination." Southwell's letter claims Mayor Reed publicly said he fired Mr. Southwell because of long security lines at the airport. Now, Mayor Reed is saying there is another actual reason for the firing. And Mayor Reed had no comment on what if any charges could be brought against Mr. Southwell. Mr. Southwell's attorney responded saying Mr. Southwell has no concerns about any trumped up "charges" from the Mayor. And that he was fired because he was Unwilling to bend a knee to the Mayor's "Friends and Family" contracting program This is far from over.
