Samara Private Game Reserve in South Africa protects a important population of both white and black rhinoceros in an area of the size of Manhattan. One of the world’s wildlife icons, the rhino is under serious threat from poaching and the illegal trade in rhino horn and often has no defence apart from the brave men and women who dedicate their lives to protecting them. In August this year (2021), Empowers Africa donated a year's worth of foot patrol ranger salaries to the anti-poaching unit at Samara, fulfilling an immediate need for the unit to carry out their responsibilities.
