Türkiye'nin Karadeniz Bölgesinde yer alan Çayeli, Rize’nin 19 km doğusunda yer alır. Yüzölçümü 473 km2’dir. Doğudan Pazar, güneyinden Çamlıhemşin ve İkizdere, batıdan Rize merkez ilçeleri, kuzeyden Karadeniz ile çevrilidir. Dar kıyı şeridi ve hemen arkasında yükselen, denize paralel sıradağlarıyla tipik bir Doğu Karadeniz kıyı ilçesidir. Büyük bir bölümü, Doğu Karadeniz Dağları'nın en yüksek kesimini oluşturan Rize Dağları'yla kaplıdır. Güney ucunda yükselti 2,000 m’yi aşar. İlçe ekonomisinin temeli çay üretimine dayanır. Yörede çay üretimi başlamadan önce ana ürün mısırdı. Çayeli’nde hem yerleşime, hem de bitkisel üretime elverişli tek alan dar kıyı şerididir. Nüfusun büyük bir bölümü burada toplandığı gibi, çay ekimi de bu kesimde yoğunlaşmıştır. Türkiye’deki çay ekim alanlarının üçte ikisi Rize ilinde, bunun da %18’lik kısmı Çayeli ilçesinin sınırları içindedir. It is surrounded by Pazar to the east, Çamlıhemşin and İkizdere to the south, Rize central districts to the west and the Black Sea to the north. It is a typical Eastern Black Sea coastal district with its narrow coastal strip and the mountain ranges rising parallel to the sea just behind it. A large part of it is covered by the Rize Mountains, which form the highest part of the Eastern Black Sea Mountains. The elevation at the southern end exceeds 2,000 m. The basis of the district's economy is based on tea production. Before tea production began in the region, the main product was corn. The only area suitable for both settlement and plant production in Çayeli is the narrow coastal strip. A large part of the population is concentrated here, and tea cultivation is also concentrated in this area. Two-thirds of the tea cultivation areas in Turkey are in Rize province, and 18% of this is within the borders of Çayeli district.
