On the night of 8 July 2024, as part of a largescale military operation in the northern West Bank, Israeli soldiers and Border Police entered Nur Shams Refugee Camp in dozens of military vehicles, with five bulldozers and a drone overhead. The forces imposed a curfew on the camp and launched a massive demolition campaign, damaging essential infrastructure and dozens of homes and businesses. During the operation, Palestinians clashed with the forces, hurling stones and explosives and firing at them. The forces responded with gunfire, injuring several residents. After about 15 hours of demolition and arresting one person, the forces left the camp. The massive destruction included, according to the camp’s committee, about one kilometer of the main road (Route 57) and damage to water, sewage, electricity and communications infrastructure. Several businesses along the road were also destroyed, and many others severely damaged. In the al-Manshiyah neighborhood, in the eastern part of the camp, 15 homes were demolished and dozens damaged. Some of the homes were demolished with inhabitants inside, giving them no prior warning and no chance to evacuate.
