The compression of the median nerve can be due to increased growth of bones and/or increased proliferation of soft tissue surrounding the median nerve. Due to the compression on the median nerve, the median nerve does not function properly, leading to characteristic signs and symptoms in the median nerve distribution (area of the hand supplied by the median nerve).
