Prefight records; Holmes 60(40)-4, Ferguson 20(14)-12. Entering the fight, the 15 year veteran Jesse had wins over the likes of James Douglas and Ray Mercer. He had also fought and lost to many notable fighters such as Bruce Seldon, Michael Dokes, Frank Bruno, Riddick Bowe, Oliver McCall, Orlin Norris, James Smith, Carl Williams, Tony Tubbs & Mike Tyson. On the other hand, Larry had defeated top oppositions such as Alfredo Evangelista, Trevor Berbick, Ossie Ocasio, Carl Williams, Jose Ribalta, Ken Norton, Tim Witherspoon, Mike Weaver, James Smith, Gerry Cooney, Scott LeDoux, Tex Cobb, Tiger Williams, Leon Spinks, Renaldo Snipes, Ray Mercer & Earnie Shavers (2x) throughout his 21 year career that began back in March 1973. Despite being terribly out of shape, Ferguson gave a very good account of himself by using his strength to pin the former world champion on the ropes with body punches before going upstairs. Holmes was able to counter with sharp lefts and rights but took a lot of punishment in the process. Larry was badly wobbled in round 2 by an overhand right and a barrage of head shots while trading at close range near the ropes. As a whole, Jesse did very well in the first half but Holmes came back well in the second half as he regained his composure and used his ring smarts to box his way to the final bell to end a surprisingly difficult fight. After 30 minutes of awesome Heavyweight action, the 3 judges scored the bout 99-92, 97-94 & 96-94 for The Easton Assassin who improved his record to 61(40)-4. The decision was booed by the crowd, who on the other hand hand gave The Boogieman a round of applause for his unexpectedly good performance. What do you guys think of the verdict?
