This is a shortened version of the original programme that was broadcast. Almost a thousand people have died in the five years of violence in Northern Ireland. Despite the political initiative of the past few months there seem to be no signs of an end to the bombing and the shooting. Strabane is a small town of ten thousand people tucked away in a far corner of Northern Ireland. Over the past five months Strabane has, for a place its size, suffered more than any other community in Northern Ireland. Nineteen people have died, the city centre has been destroyed by the bombing campaign of the Provisional IRA, and the bill for the damage has reached nearly £5 million. Strabane is a border town. The Irish Republic lies across the river - five hundred yards away the Provisionals have a base of operations. Peter Taylor Reports.
