[Stream] Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse (SMS), Kuni-chan no Game Tengoku 1&2

As a follow-up to last stream, I check out Sega's initial Mickey Mouse game with Castle of Illusion… but I'm playing the less well known 8-bit verison on Master System, which is a very different take on the concept, with a bit more exploration, a block-throwing interaction mechanic, some different level types, and whole new boss fights compared to the Mega Drive version. Although the story is nothing special, I had a good time with this game and played to the ending where Mizrabel does her best Dr. Wily impression. Afterwards I try a direct follow-up of sorts by Sega. Kuni-chan no Game Tengoku is a collection of four sub-games on the Game Gear, starring Japanese comedian Kuniko Yamada. The story mode is a parody of Castle of Illusion, bringing back the castle setting and many of the non-Disney-owned characters. Within this are the sub-games: a boring board game, a five-player rendition of Daifugō which is a card game I don't know the rules to, a serviceable tennis simulation (with Sonic the Hedgehog as the referee!!), and a version of Sega's Columns with a distracting border. I spend a little time with each before moving on. Kuni-chan no Game Tengoku Part 2 was released a year later so I had to try that out too, even though it doesn't have any Mickey references. This time the framing is a bit more standard with Kuni-chan presenting a TV programme, and the four sub-games are a behind-the-back kart racer simulation, a bowling game, a Chinese zodiac-themed jigsaw, and a surprisingly fun ninja-themed action game involving a trampoline. I spent more time with the latter and played it all the way through, clearing the boss fight against a giant ghost. Fun fact, some of the minigames in these two titles were reworked into the European Game Gear release "Sega Game Pack 4 in 1". Broadcast live on Twitch at   / miloscatter
