Today as it Happened on Tuesday, December 23, 2025: The U.S. Department of Justice has released thousands more documents related to its investigation into convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein after missing the deadline on Friday to release its entire cache of records as required by law. The Justice Department says some of the documents include "untrue and sensationalist claims made against President Trump." "To be clear: the claims are unfounded and false, and if they had a shred of credibility, they certainly would have been weaponized against President Trump already," the department said. Among the documents is an email stating that Trump was listed as a passenger on Epstein’s private plane at least eight times between 1993 and 1998. The email’s author and recipients are not known since all identifying information has been redacted. The Justice Department has not said whether the claims in the email were verified. The U.S. military said Monday that it had conducted another strike against a boat it said was smuggling drugs in the eastern Pacific Ocean, killing one person. In a social media post, U.S. Southern Command said, “Intelligence confirmed the low-profile vessel was transiting along known narco-trafficking routes in the Eastern Pacific and was engaged in narco-trafficking operations.” Southern Command provided no evidence that the vessel was engaged in drug smuggling. And Afghan migrants are receiving letters ordering them to report to ICE offices on Christmas and New Year's Day as part of the Trump administration's immigration crackdown during the holidays, according to a top Afghan advocacy group. In a copy shared by AfghanEvac, the call-in letter shows an appointment date of December 25 and lists the reason as "scheduled report check-in." The letter includes a request to bring documents to the appointment. The Department of Homeland Security has not responded to requests for comment about the notices. ------------------------------------- Join our newsletter at https://bit.ly/2q1tepr Follow us on Facebook: / scrippsnews Follow us on Twitter: / scrippsnews Follow us on Instagram: / scrippsnews Follow us on TikTok: / scrippsnews
