Stephanie Street set for year-long construction beginning in June

Stephanie Street has long served as a main north-south artery through Henderson, linking older parts of the city with the casinos and shopping centers that now line miles of the roadway. Now, the busy corridor is poised for a major overhaul that could cost millions — and could bring significant traffic headaches. UNLV history department chair Michael Green said Stephanie Street “bridges the older part of Henderson, the part that was associated with the 40s and 50s when that was developing, and all of the things that have gone on since.” He added, “Its growth reflects Henderson’s growth.” That growth is also driving the need for extensive repairs to a steel pipe system running beneath the street. The city of Henderson is planning an upgrade to address what was described as notoriously unreliable piping that, if faulty, puts current sewage capacity close to its maximum.
