Conversion of HLG Rec.2020 to Rec.709 in post (FCPX) was performed using Paul Leeming's HLG LUT as the "Camera LUT." GH5 was in Creative Video Mode with "S" Mode selected in the menus (Shutter Priority) and the shutter set to 180°. This allows the Aperture to vary in order to set proper exposure. ISO was set to Auto but stayed locked to 400 in the outdoor clips. I did use Exposure Compensation while watching the Histogram to ensure proper exposure. In most cases I added up to +1 of exposure compensation, since outdoors while in HLG the GH5 tends to shoot a slightly darker scene than necessary. For the most part, HLG keeps the highlights in bright scenes from blowing out, which is why I use it (and because it gets the same dynamic range of vLog, which is why I never paid the $99 Panasonic vLog tax). If you GH5 owners decide to try HLG, keep in mind that HLG locks the luminance range to the Legal Limit of 64-960 (10-bit), which means the darks won't go all the way to the left and brights won't go all the way to the right in your on-screen histogram. I followed the Leeming LUT HLG guidelines for the GH5 "Photo Style" settings for HLG Mode: Contrast: can't be set, Sharpness: -5, Noise Reduction: -5, Saturation: 0 (default), Hue: 0 (default). I then added Unsharp Mask and color grading in post in FCPX. Those guidelines can be found here: https://bit.ly/34L05iE Still photos used in the video were shot with the Lumix GX7, using the Panasonic 20mm F1.7 lens and the Olympus 75mm F1.8. Video scenes all shot with natural light -- no studio lighting was used. GH5 framerate for this 4K video was set to 30p (29.97). Normally, that allows Safari to display in up to 1440p resolution, but for some reason Safari locks this video to a max of 1080p, despite my having shot in 30p (29.97). I have uploaded other 4K videos in 30p to YouTube and they display in Safari at 1440p just fine, so I am confused about what prevents this VideoMicro video from displaying in 1440p in Safari. FireFox also locks the resolution to a max of 1080p for this video. To see it in 4K or 1440p, you will need to use Chrome. I personally hate Chrome on the Mac because I often get 400 errors on YouTube and am forced to use an incognito window to get around the problem. Despite this, to see the video in all its glory, you'll need to view it in Chrome.
