A conversation with Airiel Salvatore, a detransitioner who underwent hormone treatment and trans vaginoplasty surgery while he identified as a woman. Airiel tells his story about childhood trauma from his abusive and emotional confused father who Airiel feels played a major role in his gender dysphoria. Airiel speaks out about the need to think through your past and the possible reasons behind your identity before you commit to medicalization. I generally ask detransitioners where and when they underwent their procedures, sometimes after the interview, in order to provide some background for viewers. Airiel messaged me after the interview that he received his vaginoplasty in Thailand in September 2013 at Preecha Aesthetic Institute's Bangkok center.
