Narrative Summary Last session, you reached Warwick’s home, Harvest Bay, and found the hamlet deserted, the air clammy and wrong. In the Bowline Tavern, meals sat abandoned and scuffs led to a cellar where the innkeeper lay dead. On the wall, someone had scrawled: the dark is rising and the bay is alive. A concealed storeroom held smuggled Fort Antraxus rum and port, untouched by raiders. Gertrude’s (Warwick's mother) cottage showed a struggle and drag marks but no blood. A second hidden hatch beneath the tavern dropped to a tunnel—its ladder sabotaged—that ran to a reed‑veiled sea cave. On the beach, human footprints mixed with strange, flippered tracks headed to the water. You overturned a boat to find a terrified girl who could only point toward the sea and the ruined keep. After hiding her with food and water, you skirted the breached keep and climbed to the old watchtower. When you called up, a voice shrieked from above: leave me alone—leaving you poised to confront the hermit and learn what stalked Harvest Bay. ----------------------------- Blow by Blow Breakdown Arrival at Harvest Bay and Uneasy Silence The party arrived at Warwick’s childhood hamlet and sensed unnatural humidity and stillness. Boats were barnacled, nets tattered, livestock roamed free, and no villagers were visible. The group resolved to investigate the Bowline Tavern first before seeking Gertrude. Bowline Tavern Investigation and Cellar Discovery The team entered front and back, barred doors, and surveyed abandoned meals and toppled chairs. Scuff marks led to a trapdoor; in the cellar they found the innkeeper’s corpse and a cold lantern. Blood and charcoal warnings read the dark is rising and the bay is alive. A hidden side room contained smuggled Fort Antraxus rum and a crate of port, untouched by raiders. Gertrude’s Cottage and Clues of Abduction Gertrude’s hut showed a broken window, an upended bed, and drag marks to the door. Nothing was looted, suggesting captives were taken rather than goods. The party returned to the tavern to search further for routes the abductors used. Smugglers’ Tunnel to the Sea and the Survivor A second concealed hatch beneath straw revealed a ladder; a sabotaged rung sent Warwick tumbling. The tunnel opened into a reed‑masked sea cave with daylight beyond. On the beach, booted prints mingled with strange, non‑human tracks leading to the surf. Under an overturned boat the party found a terrified girl; they calmed her, provided food and water, and sheltered her near the cave. Recon of the Ruins and Contact at the Watchtower The party skirted a breached, overgrown keep that showed signs of assault but no inhabitants. They climbed to the old watchtower where Warwick recalled a hermit once lived. Inside the cluttered ruin, they called up; a panicked voice answered, Leave me alone, ending the session poised for a confrontation.
