Cillian Murphy Interview on Winning GQ Actor of the Year (2006)

On 5 September 2006, ITN spoke to Cillian Murphy on the red carpet of GQ's Men of the Year Awards. Murphy, who had won the Actor of the Year Award for his role in Ken Loach's Irish Civil War film The Wind That Shakes the Barley, told ITN what the award meant. He also spoke about attending the Cannes Film Festival, where The Wind That Shakes the Barley won the Palme d'Or, and his hope that he would work with Loach again in the future. Since 2006, Murphy has gone on to achieve global fame for roles in films including Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy, Inception, and Dunkirk. It is his role in Steven Knight's inter-war period drama Peaky Blinders, however, for which Murphy is best known, his performance as Shelby family patriarch Thomas "Tommy" Shelby earning him critical acclaim. Murphy will play the eponymous lead in Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer, a biopic of J Robert Oppenheimer, the so-called "father of the atomic bomb" who led America's Manhattan Project during the Second World War.
