Orpheus 'Nea Genia' - Dances from Karditsa, Thessalia - HDF 2019

The Nea Genia group of the Orpheus Hellenic Folklore Society presented songs and dances from Karditsa, Thessalia during the final round at HDF in Atlanta, Georgia. We would like to acknowledge Mrs. Athena Sideri, a renowned researcher of folk traditions from Karditsa and Thessalia region. Mrs. Sideri was gracious to share with us her rich resources and research and we are forever grateful for her valuable assistance. The Nea Genia group was awarded the Platinum Award (first place) at the Senior category. The group was also awarded the Folklore Expression award for their presentation of the Vagia custom. We would like to also acknowledge the musicians that accompanied the Karditsa suite: members of the band “Methorios” from Greece, Dionisis Livathinos - Clarinet, vocals Giogio Davl - Accordeon Stathis Paraskevopoulos - Ntefi Directors: Yannis Economou and Jillian Economy The songs/dances performed are: 1.
