By: Cyrene Kazandra N. Tumaliuan (Rizal), Claudine Delfin, and Cyrill Acuña For the past three years, the proponents of the video have collaborated in creating comics and zines for Kwago—a Philippine-based community bookstore and publishing lab. Their entry tackles women in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). For them, women involved in STEM are still in the nation’s periphery. Ask anyone to name any female scientist, doctor, nurse, or engineer in history, and they assure that most people will have no one in mind. Narratives about women in Philippine history are still in the margins of our official curriculum and so, the group wants to address this problem of representation through their video. The proponents have created a short video featuring four notable Filipina women in STEM to increase the public’s awareness of the contributions of women in the development of this sector in the Philippines. To accompany their video, they have also created a poster that educators and their students can color as an activity for engaged learning: http://bit.ly/angfilipinasalaboratory... #AtingNayon #RhizomaticInterventions
