Hi fam, Once again I celebrated another Creole day with Dominica as a Nigerian and this was how it went. Are you wondering what Creole day is all about? Creole Day or Journee Kweyol forms part of the Creole Week celebrations which takes place each year during the Independence celebrations. As it name suggests Creole Day is a day set aside for the celebration of the Creole culture in Dominica. Dominica was discovered by Christopher Columbus and colonized by the French and Great Britain at different periods of our history. In colonial times Europeans, Arawaks, Caribs, and African made up the population of this country and the present day cultures and traditions of this country is in part a reproduction or mirrors these different races which left their foot prints on the island but perhaps the French and African culture remained more prevalent. Dominica gained independence from Great Britain on the third of November 1978 and each year observes numerous activities to celebrate her history, culture and independence. These celebrations begin in September and ends on the fourth November. Creole Day is celebrated the last Friday in October each year. The Creole culture in Dominica can be seen in the Traditional dress of both male and female, the food, local dialect, etc. The Creole culture can be best described as a mixture of Afro-French cultures influenced to a small extent by the indigenous people Source: www.dominicaculture.org I hope you enjoy watching.
