I finally get to film an AC Transit Van Hool; I've been meaning to film one for quite a while. As a little child, I remember riding these buses with my grandpa very often. What I can remember riding these buses is that they looked new, modern, and stylish and have amazing Voith transmissions! Many people do despise of these buses, but I still like them. Now the Van Hools are being retired as they are being replaced with Gilligs and New Flyers. Time really flies. I'd say more than half of the fleet has been retired and the remaining portions can easily be replaced with Gillig Low Floors. These buses will always have a place in my childhood memory as the Voith transmission is amazing. Here is, what could turn out to be, my very last ride on an ACT Van Hool bus. The most interesting thing about these buses is that the engine is actually at the very front of the bus, which is why the back of the bus is super quiet. Most North American buses will have the engine at the back of the bus. The last time I remember riding an articulated Van Hool was in the very early 2010s on the 1R to Oakland with my grandpa (during a BART strike) before it got replaced with the current TEMPO rapid transit service (which is now run by a fleet of XDE60s). I also have a video of a rigid Van Hool bus that I hope to post in a couple of weeks, and you can hear the transmission much better! If your a Bay Area transit fan or a transit fan current visiting this area, you should ride an AC Transit Van Hool relatively soon. They'll be gone before you know it.
