[TAS] SMG1: Dreadnought 2 in

Luigi skips past the colossal cannons in 1 minute 19.92 seconds [4795 frames]. From the first bolt, I (accidentally) perform a bonkwarp. As we understand it (source: @nimka005), "bonkwarp (short for bonk upwarp) is a glitch where Mario bonks and falls on the edge of a floor or a seam, which causes Mario to upwarp to the height the bonk occurred at." This let me run for a few frames onto the ledge, and spinning somehow cancelled the stutter between the 'warp' run and the grounded run, enabling a long jump 3 frames earlier. Overall this saved 14 frames. The Chomp route was inspired by StainedGlass: https://twitter.com/Mario_Speedrun/st... I tried various ideas of crouching below the electric fences and doing triple jumps and backflips, but 2P jumps were ultimately faster. Particularly over the second fence, due to the gravity being flat while the surface is sloped, the lower vertical gain combined with the horizontal speed of a 2P jump made it faster to go over than under. The next bolt was used to grind along to reach the next nut; strangely, if you get stuck on the bolt as I did with the first one, you get stopped about 3/4 of the way, so only grinding along the side is the way to go. Wallkicking with a 2P mid-air was slightly faster than 2P mid-air into a wallkick spin, with some extra timesave from being able to quickly get traction and long jump earlier (a mechanic I don't understand). Another bonkwarp was faster for bridge skip, only because a normal long jump spin couldn't make it past the first bar without screwing the nut some way forward. The spin from the warp helped to land with higher slide speed, which went backwards into the gap between two slopes. This gap is too small for Luigi to slip through normally, so it caused squeezing which meant even higher sliding speed, leading to a super fast 2P slope jump. The slope jump was made faster by pressing and holding Z 2 frames before jumping, which makes Luigi shift slightly. Entering the final section, an instawalk was not faster as it took too long to enter the launch star with the setup. For some reason a jump land cancel wasn't working, so I had to settle with a camera cancel. A single jump backwards onto the first moving platform was still faster, activating the platform earlier. From there, I ran off the platform to pick up jump speed, went neutral after double jumping to avoid flying right off the edge, and went neutral just before triple jumping to conserve an extra burst of speed (aka a mega triple jump), making it all the way to the stationary platform, where a single jump conserved some of the remaining speed (however, neutral in this case would lead to a full stop). Despite not having as much hspd, a 2P mid-air was better than a spin to the next moving platform. Using the moving platform momentum to long jump OoB without spinning, the following long jumps were delayed with crouch sliding for 3 frames each. These bursts have an average hspd of 13 units, compared to running which is 8 units average for the first half a second. They landed in the perfect spot to long jump back in bounds, being able to land directly on the next moving platform. A land stun was prevented by doing an airspin cancel, doing the same inputs for a frame-perfect ground pound (Shake + Z) but too close to ground to ground pound, resulting in a low spin. I tried various ideas for the final part, including another mega triple jump, and many long jumps, but the fastest strat I could figure out was backwards bouncing off the cannonballs, using P2 to freeze potentially damaging balls (and also freezing and unfreezing the second bounced ball with precise timing to bounce off the back edge of its collision). This could be improved further to bounce directly off the first Jump Beamer, which could be enough to land directly on the ? Block. Needs some experimenting. Spinning into the bottom corner of the star saved a couple of frames. #SuperMarioGalaxy #ToolAssistedSpeedrun
